In an ongoing response to the increased misuse of opioids and related deaths, the DuPage County Health Department hosted a symposium, Improving Patient Safety in the Opioid Crisis: What is the Prescriber’s Role? on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Medinah Shrine Center in Addison, IL.
During this event on October 9, 2019, attendees learned about pain management, tapering, dependency, treatment, and referral to improve patient safety, health outcomes, and clinician well-being.
This seminar took place virtually on December 17, 2020. Attendees heard how to prevent opioid overdose deaths by learning how hospitals can be involved in statewide overdose prevention efforts. Presentations focused on how hospitals and emergency departments can distribute naloxone, increase access to medications to treat opioid use disorder, and create stronger linkage to community resources.
